2021 Has Passed its Midway Point

2021 has passed its midway point. July 1 was the 182nd day of the year in the Gregorian calendar. There are now less than 183 days remaining in 2021.  Have you reached your professional goals set for this year?  If you are ahead of schedule or have already exceeded your goals, congratulations!  In the event you are behind schedule, NOW is the time to begin in order to achieve your goals by year’s end.

Professional goals can vary widely.  Is there a promotion coming your way or perhaps you are targeting a higher level position?  Transitioning to a completely different company or a shiny new career is also an exciting option. What were the goals you wanted to achieve in 2021?

This summer, Americans are once again on the move, vacationing across the country.  Vacationing at the beach or hiking in the mountains helps us relax, clearing our minds of all superfluous thoughts bringing forward what we consider important.  These days of reflection can clarify options and provide avenues for achieving your professional goals.  If your reflection has led you to contemplating a job search, consider these two generalized concepts to help get you started.

 1. When should I begin my job search?

There are two schools of thought.  One is to wait until the end of the year.  Organizations usually make changes during this time preparing for the next year.  This could mean new hires or it could mean they will scale back, eliminating positions.  The end of the year is the Holiday season and most people are interested in this festive season and all it entails, not searching for a new job.  It makes sense that there will be less competition for positions at the end of the year.

The other school of thought is that anytime is a good time to search for a new position.  The current job market is robust and companies are searching for qualified candidates possessing skills ready to advance their operation forward.  The current growing economy has opportunities abounding so it never hurts to strike while the iron is hot!

2. When was the last time you interviewed for a new job?

If you’ve been in your position for several years and haven’t interviewed for an external position, corporate interviews have evolved and changed, so interview preparation is imperative.  If you are interviewing for a position within your current company chances are you still have to interview so again, preparation is key!  Over time, it’s only natural to have lost a bit of interview finesse and skill.

2021 is halfway over.  The good news is there is still time to attain your goals.  Begin today, focus and stay motivated to make the rest of the year count towards your desired professional goal.  If you need assistance, I provide a 30 minute complimentary consultation.  I can help you prepare for any job interview.

As a job interview coach with over 30 years of experience, I offer a free 30 minute coaching consultation. I’d be happy to serve you!
